Alcohol-free after-work events: venues and workshops for January 2027

    Key points

    • Put activities and conversation at the centre of the event, rather than alcohol.
    • Ask for a drinks menu and recipes that are explicitly alcohol-free.
    • Consider mocktails, cooking, creative activities, team games or wellbeing.
    • Have the venue and provider confirm availability and terms before booking.

Why organise an alcohol-free after-work event in January?

Some participants do not drink alcohol, either occasionally or as a rule. A programme that does not revolve around drinking can accommodate these preferences without asking anyone to explain their choices. January 2027 can be an opportunity to try a different format, but the principle remains useful throughout the year.

An alcohol-free after-work event is not just about removing wine: it can focus on an activity, a tasting and time for conversation. The ideas in this guide are formats to consider, not partner offerings already confirmed for January.

    Five alcohol-free after-work formats

Group sizes and durations are indicative. Ask for a format suited to your team's needs, the space and actual availability.

FormatIndicative group sizeIndicative durationWhat to check
    Mocktail workshop10 to 60 people1 h 30Recipes, ingredients, equipment, glassware
Cooking workshop8 to 30 people2 to 3 hAllergies, equipment, meal included
    Creative workshop8 to 40 people1 h 30 to 2 h 30Accessibility, materials, drying time
Escape game or team games6 to 50 people, in teams1 to 2 hGroup sizes, rotations, difficulty level
Wellbeing8 to 30 peopleAround 1 hSuitable format, comfort, voluntary participation

    Mocktail workshop

Making drinks can still be a sociable activity without alcohol. Ask for ingredient details, including the bases used and any possible traces of alcohol. Explain your expectations to the provider and also offer simple drinks for those who do not want to take part in the workshop.

    Cooking workshop

Preparing food together can be followed by a meal. Clarify how groups will be organised, the menu, dietary requirements and the equipment needed. A short workshop does not necessarily replace dinner: check what is included.

    Creative workshop

Painting, pottery or plant-based crafts can provide the focus for a programme built around making something. Check that the format is suitable for beginners and that participants can take their creations home, or have them delivered after drying or firing.

    Escape game or team games

A game can bring departments together around a shared goal. Ask about the number of participants per team, rotations and any accessibility constraints. Offer an alternative if some participants do not want to take part in the activity.

    Wellbeing

Gentle yoga or relaxation may suit some groups, provided participation is optional. Do not assume the format is accessible to everyone without adjustments: ask about the requirements and the instructor's qualifications.

    How to choose the venue

    • Drinks: ask for the menu, recipe ingredients and clearly alcohol-free options.
    • Space: tables for a workshop, room to move around for a game, a quiet space for a wellbeing session.
    • External provider: the venue must agree to their involvement and confirm water, electricity and setup arrangements.
    • Price: compare what is included, not just whether alcohol is served. An elaborate drink recipe or a workshop can cost as much as another format.
    • Access: transport, accessibility and return travel times suited to your team.

Compare venues to prepare a shortlist; then confirm the drinks, activity and terms with the professionals involved.

Sample programme: two hours thirty minutes

Here is an example for 20 to 30 people, to adapt to the venue, provider and your team. These timings do not constitute a bookable offer.

    1. 18 h 30 — Welcome: hot drink or mocktail, introduction to the programme.
    2. 18 h 45 — Workshop: drink preparation, a short cooking session or a creative activity, with an agreed duration.
    3. 20 h — Buffet: meal or tasting, depending on the chosen format.
    4. 20 h 30 — Free time: conversation, optional quiz or board games.
    5. 21 h — Finish: end time announced in advance, with return transport arranged if needed.

If an activity requires cooking, drying or lengthy cleanup, adjust the programme with the provider rather than trying to stick rigidly to this schedule.

    Preparing for January 2027

We recommend starting discussions before December, then having availability for January confirmed. No time slot or response time is guaranteed. In your enquiry, explicitly specify alcohol-free, your preferred activity, date, group size and budget.

We are not presenting a list of confirmed offerings for January 2027 here: their terms must be validated by the venues and providers. Browse providers and activities to help prepare your questions.

    Questions to ask before organising

Should we let the team know?

Yes: describe the programme and planned drinks in the invitation. Highlight the workshop, buffet and opportunities to chat, without judging anyone's habits.

How much does an alcohol-free after-work event cost?

The price depends on the venue, drinks, meal, activities and equipment. An alcohol-free format is not automatically cheaper. Ask for an itemised quote, showing amounts excluding and including VAT, and the price per person where applicable.

Can we organise the same format outside January?

Yes: cooking, creative activities and team games can also work for onboarding, a regular after-work event or a company evening event at another time of year.

Is there a charge for requesting a quote?

No: submitting an enquiry on BookAfterwork is free and carries no obligation for businesses. Availability and booking are not confirmed simply by submitting an enquiry.
