    Key points

    • Choose the venue and entertainment together: kitchen facilities, electricity, noise and finishing times depend on both.
    • For small-group interaction, consider a cooking, mixology or creative workshop.
    • For a party atmosphere, compare roaming magicians, DJs and musicians.
    • Request a detailed quote covering equipment, travel, setup, duration and cancellation terms.

Which entertainment should you choose for a corporate evening event?

The right entertainment depends on four criteria: the number of guests, the length of the evening, the available space and your objective — conversation, celebration or team cohesion. A workshop involves participants directly; roaming entertainment gives them more freedom. For a team whose members do not know each other well, making or preparing something together can help start conversations.

This guide compares five formats to consider. The group sizes and durations below are planning guidelines, not guaranteed capacities: the provider must confirm a suitable format in their quote.

The five entertainment formats in detail

    Cooking workshop: prepare and share

A chef guides participants through preparing a dish or a menu. Ask about the number of groups, the equipment and ingredients included, and how the meal fits into the programme. Flag allergies and dietary requirements before approving the proposal. The venue must allow the setup and have the necessary facilities.

Mixology workshop: cocktails with or without alcohol

A workshop teaches participants how to make a few recipes; a mobile drinks service works differently and may run throughout the evening. Ask the provider to specify the number of drinks, glassware, ingredients and cleaning arrangements. For an alcohol-free version, explicitly ask for the recipes and ingredient details. If alcohol is served, the venue and provider must check the applicable licensing requirements.

Magician: entertainment that fits around conversation

For close-up magic, the magician moves between groups during the drinks reception. A stage show requires a different setup: visibility, a microphone, sound equipment and a dedicated time slot. Check the duration, the number of guests the performance can realistically reach and any customisation options.

DJ or live musicians: planning the party element

A DJ can provide music for the drinks reception and then for dancing. A band often needs more space. The quote should detail sound and lighting, setup, pack-down, breaks and overtime. Ask the venue to confirm permitted hours and noise levels; do not assume that a standard power socket is sufficient for every setup.

    Creative workshop: making something together

Painting, pottery or terrarium workshops may suit beginners. Check accessibility, materials, protective coverings, drying or firing time, and arrangements for taking creations home. Plan a format that also leaves time to chat.

How to choose your entertainment provider

    1. Group size and format: seated or standing guests, one session or several rotations?
    2. Venue: at the provider’s premises or in your own space? Does the venue allow the equipment, noise and timing?
    3. What the price includes: are ingredients, travel, setup and pack-down included?
    4. Terms: are the deposit, headcount adjustments and cancellation terms set out in writing?
    5. Business status and insurance: request professional details and insurance appropriate to the service; in France, ask for the applicable business registration identifiers.

Avoid booking entertainment before checking that it is compatible with the venue. You can combine a workshop at the start with party entertainment afterwards, if the space and programme allow.

    Budget and planning lead time

The price depends on group size, duration, travel and equipment. A workshop may be charged per person, while a DJ or magician may offer a flat fee. Always ask whether the price excludes VAT (HT) or includes VAT (TTC), and which optional extras still need to be added.

Our planning recommendation is to get in touch three to four weeks in advance, or six to eight weeks for an evening event in December. This is neither a guaranteed lead time nor confirmation of availability.

Questions to ask before requesting a quote

    Can we arrange alcohol-free entertainment?

Yes: ask for a mocktail version, a cooking or creative workshop, a team game or an artistic performance. The exact content must be confirmed by the provider.

Can we combine two entertainment options?

Yes, if the venue, group size, budget and schedule allow. Make sure both services and their requirements appear in the quotes.

Is there a charge for businesses to submit a request?

No: requesting a quote on BookAfterwork is free and involves no commitment for businesses. A request is not a confirmed booking.
